It's pretty easy. I have an early 2011 MBP. I went from 4 GB to 8 GB. I also bought the memory for my portable at OWC. If you do a little quick looking on the website you will find Video that demonstrates how to change out the memory. (I think they have it for a lot of different models.)

That's what I did to change mine out. I think it is pretty easy for most folks. I work for an electronics company and so used our benches that have wrist ground straps etc. It's important to eliminate any static to prevent damage to the memory.
