Regular read/write noise - wouldn't think twice about it - some drives are just noisier than others - just because you've only now noticed it, doesn't mean it hasn't been doing it all along.

Having said that, whether the drive is quiet, noisy, or whatever else - if you don't have a backup, you're only asking for all your data to be lost.
