As bobtomay says, all slot loaders suck. Just go through the forums and see the number of failed optical drives installed in iMacs and MacBooks. Tray loading desktops reign supreme for longevity of optical drives.
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
