Thanks for that info, chscag but that begs another question.
It would seem that what you suggest is that I have 2 AV programmes on my PC, Microsoft Security Essentials AND ClamAV. Is it OK to do that on a Mac?
We were always advised to only ever have one AV running on a Windows PC.
Also, with this ClamAV, I found that only the Beta version could be used in Snow leopard and that didn't seem to have a way of doing a scan on a particular folder. The version of ClamAV that I had running on a G4 PPC Mac Mini DID allow that.
Am I missing some setting somewhere 'cos I can't imagine that you need to do a full system scan just to check a 22 mb download.
The trouble with letting people like me loose on the interweb with a debit card is that I now have the latest Mac Mini Aluminium running at 2.4 GHz with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, 320 HDD and OS X 10.6.5 all wired up to a 70" LED screen ...... And not the faintest idea of how to use it.
