I have searched and didn't really find the answer so here goes.

The only way I know to ask is by comparison:

In Linux and even windows it is sometimes recommended to partition the drive for the OS like maybe / /var /home /tmp etc.. One reason is to separate the personal files on another partition so a clean install would not affect the files.

I have not seen this on Mac OS. Does anyone do it?
