If you could do wireless charging...then you could simply do wireless electricity...which would be pretty neat! Nicola Tesla tried this sort of thing back in the early 1900's:

He tried to "broadcast" AC (alternating current) electricity via very large broadcasting towers (no wires)...but it was found to be very inefficient & costly since you needed a very large & expensive broadcasting tower every couple miles.

I'm not saying it can't be done...just that it has been tried.
