You can always increase the font size on your browser by hitting the keys "command +" to enlarge the text size.
Adding color is just a distraction especially when it's overused. It hurts my eyes when I have to read bright colors. Grey is neutral and it doesn't hurt my eyes, especially when we have to read for extended periods of time.
If you have to use colors, bold, italic, etc use it moderation. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you always should.
