I just am curious what reason Mac-Forums has to do this.......

The reason why you cannot post in the Mac-Forums Buy/Sell/Trade area...is because you have a negative (red) reputation.

- Nick

p.s. You also had "masked inappropriate language" in your post...which could have lead to further negative reputation...thus further denied access to the B/S/T forum.

Frankly, the chances of getting someone local to buy your goods are going to be significantly higher with Craigslist than it is here. Yes, you have to wade through countless SPAM messages, but stick with meeting people locally and deal with cash and things go pretty easy..

I've sold all sorts of stuff on there from cheap things to expensive things like a motorcycle and car..

How does one person giving me bad rep, completely screw me??

Evidently, it may have been a post or several that you made which some members considered to be negative or unworthy. When you receive negative rep that outweighs positive rep, you wind up in the minus column. That's why you should constantly check your personal profile and look at the rep you received. If you feel rep was given unjustly, you can always report that to the Staff.

The Buy/Sell/Trade forum is restricted to well-established community members in good standing. The forum automatically grants access to those members that have a certain (intentionally unspecified) combination of number of posts, time as a member and reputation level.

These restrictions were put in place with the intention of reducing the number and frequency of fraudulent transactions, as the forum was really only intended to allow our forum regulars a place to trade goods - not as a retail channel for those whose sole purpose for participation was to peddle their wares. Toward that end, the restrictions have been very successful - in fact - I can't remember the last time I heard of someone being scammed in our Buy/Sell/Trade forum.

There are many other channels for trading goods on the Internet, besides Craigslist. My suggestion would be to seek out other options. Otherwise, continue participating in a positive way, and I would imagine your standing will improve in short order and you'll be granted access.

Before I had the red rep, I still wasn't allowed.

The rep is only one part of the equation that determines a members ability or inability to post in the BST forums..

But the rep can be bettered by providing useful answers to other members and have them give you positive rep for that..
