You won't need a program or anything. And it will be slow.
Here's what I do...
1. Set the iPhone to airplane mode. (If it tries to get mail or a call comes thru, it freezes iTunes)
2. Connecting is hit or miss sometimes. Usually, I have to quit iTunes and launch it again. Other times, unplugging from the Mac, then plug it in again.
You also may get an error code sometimes as well. (far as I know, it's just the 1.1 USB)
3. Have lots of patience...
4. If transfering a lot of music, it will take awhile and sometimes still freezes up. But at least it saves what's transfered.
But it will work. I'm listening to music and posting this from it as I type.
