I have a 500gb Lacie external connected to my iMac G5, which is right next to my bed. Typically, I shut my computer down before I go to bed, so I don't have to put up with the noise of whirring fans while trying to sleep. I know I can put my Mac to sleep, but I'd rather shut it down. A few times while I did sleep it, it randomly woke up in the middle of the night and thus, woke me up. The external HD will sleep if I put the Mac to sleep, but if I turn my Mac off, the external HD keeps going... all night. And it's not the quietest of HDs. How can I put the HD to sleep before I shut down my Mac at night?

I have an iMac G5 and an external FW 500GB LaCie drive as well. I simply shut both down at night.

The only way I can figure out how to shut down the HD is to pull the plug. Is that right?
