• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

So, here is my tale of woe. I was studying abroad, and I maxed out all 5 of the regional code changes. So my computer is stuck in region 2. I live in region 1. While I would love to embark upon a rant about how STUPID I think this region THING is, I will hold my tongue.

Anyways, I talked to the Apple store as well as Applecare, and they are basically saying that I am stuck. Well. I know that isN'T TRUE. I don't think I need to replace my optical drive. Anyways, I come asking for help because I am completely stuck ideas wise.

First of all, I have a Macbook. And I have MATSHITA. I tried VLC Player and it did not work. I also tried Region X.

So....any solutions?

PS- I didn't see any threads talking about this problem with macbooks.

This is not an Apple issue. It's a DVD Drive issue. Had the same thing on PC's. It's been ages since I had that happen with a friends PC Notebook that I can't remember what I did to solve it. Will check around and get back to you.

If I remember correctly what solved it with my friends drive was upgrade the firmware in the DVD Drive.

Reinstall VLC with the latest one if you don't have it and try again sometimes a reinstall is what it needs to work

Yea find a region free firmware flash for your dvd/cd drive and just reflash it to make it region free.
