My main computer is a windows desktop where I use lightroom to upload and edit all my pictures.

When im on the go with my camera I will take my macbook with me so when im away from my desktop i can uploa my pictures to my macbook. Im just wondering what the best imaging software to manage these temporeraly on my macbook would be? Should i just use iPhoto or get something a bit more substantial like adobe lightroom or aperture?

iPhoto is plenty sufficient for the needs you've mentioned. Since you aren't really doing any heavy duty editing while on the go, iPhoto should serve your purpose.
