is there a program out there that will record audio being streamed through the sound card on my macbook? I mean a type of recording that doesn't use a mic, but records sound as it runs through the computer before it comes out of the speakers.

Thanks.

Garageband should know how to do that. I'm not sure about the inputs on the Macbook though. The line-in/mic-in on my Macbook Pro has no pre-amp so if that's the case with yours you may have to pump the signal up with an amp.

If not, try Audacity. It's crappy but it's free and does its job fairly okay..

No I think he means recording something playing on the system. eg. audio from a website, etc.

I've tried to do this as well, and I haven't been able to find a way how yet. I've tried using Audacity, which is what I used to use on PC. I've looked around in the sound settings in the system preferences, but haven't found an option for it.

Somebody please help!

Thx.

I am new to Apple Computers. I recently bought a 20 inch iMac. Garageband
will work :Free with iMac but I downloaded the program AMADEUS PRO and
you can use it for 15 days to test it out. Works pretty good for recording
songs off the ITunes and SEEQPOD music website. (Ever use Seeqpod? It will
allow you to look up most songs and play back the song as you record it.)
ONLY problem with Amadeus Pro is that you need to have the room silent of
noise as the iMac microphone will pick it up along with the song as you record
it. Amadeus Pro will cost you $40.

I used a PC for most of my early recording and I used a program called
"TOTAL RECORDER" and it worked great for recording songs and spoken
programs on talk shows. It only cost $12. for the basic program to record
audio programs to save as MP3 files.
