Have you seen the commercial in which the pilot talks about avoiding a 3 hour delay thanks to his iPhone? Yeah…we don’t buy it either. But, someone did, and got spanked because of it. Because of weather delays, a guy’s plane gets diverted to a different airport. But, thanks to his trusty iPhone, the man notices the all-clear, and notifies the Flight Attendant. When relayed to the pilot, the pilot responded over the air with:

“If the passenger with the iPhone would be kind enough to use it to check the weather at our alternate, calculate our fuel burn due to being rerouted around the storms, call the dispatcher to arrange our release, and then make a phone call to the nearest Air Traffic Control center to arrange our timely departure amongst the other aircraft carrying passengers with iPhones, then we will be more than happy to depart. Please ring your call button to advise the Flight Attendant and your fellow passengers when you deem it ready and responsible for this multi-million dollar aircraft and its passengers to safely leave.”

You knew this was going to happen sooner rather than later…Just classic!

Awesome!

It's really quite sad that some people actually believe those commercials are real people and stories.

Hey.. I'd hella use my iPhone to find something out and try to help my flight get somewhere. I'm not a patient person, and if I'm stuck on a plane... when we're able to go, I want to go. ;)

so can someone give me their honest opinion... my ipod broke (says it will be $230 to fix and it's one of the very old brick style 30 gb ones), my cell phone is in the process of breaking (shuts off randomly all the time) and I'm currently on a phone plan with ATT. What do you think about me getting an 8 GB iphone? Bad idea? Any thoughts on why I shoul/shouldn't be getting one? Like I said, phone and ipod is my main reason, everything else is just bonus, so think of it from that standpoint when forumulating your answers. Thanks a lot.

If you think you'll use all of the other glorious things on the phone, then I'd say get it. Personally, I used to have one of those old white iPods and it broke down on me... finally. So, I got a new iPod, and then ended up buying the phone 6-7 months later. You obviously won't be able to hold as many songs as you'd be able to hold on your 30GB iPod... but I guess it all depends on how much you really have to put on there.

IMO.. it would be a good investment. The only thing I'd worry about would be if there's an updated iPhone release within the next few months since Macworld is coming up.
