Intermittant Printer Problems

I am using a Brother All-in-one Laser Printer. I downloaded the Leopard driver from the Brother website. Once in a while, printing will not happen. I can see the printer, but checking the status says device not connected. When I remove the USB cable from my iMac and then plug it back in, it works. Is this a Brother issue or a Leopard issue?
