Ok, so my nice little 60" HD tv has the right input for my macbook (DVI, i think it's called). if I get the right cable, and the little adapter, will I be able to use that tv as a second monitor, or will I be limited to just a recreation of what was originally on the macbook screen? This is the macbook with the GMA950.

So after about 4 hours of searching, i found that there is a way to do just what I asked. It is, in fact, possible to get video from the macbook to the HDTV. First thing you need is the mini-DVI to DVI adapter fome Apple, then find you a DVI to HDMI cable (for my specific application. Your TV could have DVI inputs), and then plug and play.

I have not confirmed whether or not you can have the tv as a monitor though. I will definately do this and post the results.

I use my 42" lcd tv as a monitor using the same cables you're using (i also have a macbook). It should work just fine as an extention to your current screen or a primary monitor.

Yep, it'll work. You need the adapter you've already figured out.
Then you can use a DVI cable if your TV has that or a DVI to HDMI cable.
