Superdrive or OS not liking my DVD-RW dics ????

Hi all! I just purchased a 10pk of DVD-RW dics for my Mac (they say '4X DVD-RW data 4.7 GB/120 Video'). Since I have a DVD-RW drive (the 4X superdrive in my eMac) I assumed these would work....nada! I put it in, and the superdrive just spits it right back out...all 10. No way are all of them bad. Am I not doing something right? Special requirements for RW's in the mac world?

Thanks for your help

What brand? I'm a big fan of Memorex.

I don't like Memorex. I tend to use Imation, Fujii and Verbatim for DVD media and Imation for CD media.

Hmm, why? Cheaper, sound better, more reliable?

Granted, I did buy the cheapos....RiDATA, by Ritech. But I would expect the OS to atleast recognize them. Anyone have any ideas?

again like I stated before, most DVD-RW drives are simply "picky" about which DVD-RW discs they like..Try some of the brands mentioned on this page, and you will have success.

Oh, for DVD-RWs I use Imation media. The again I am using an external LaCie DVD burner.

I will be looking into getting a dual layer DVD burner as soon as there is more DVD media is available.

When did the superdrive turn into a DVD-RW drive? My impression was that it was DVD-R, and then some people were getting it to work on RWs? So my assumption would be that you certainly would not get it to do RW on el cheapo RWs...

I think it started when Panther was released. I remember reading it somewhere.

My superdrive is definately a DVD-RW. What ever happened to standards? A DVD-RW should be the same as any other DVD-RW...atleast to minimum standards.

The problem is not the standard. I believe in Jaguar you could not write to a DVD-RW disk. It was enabled in Panther.

rman, what is so good about the brand of CD/DVD-R/RW media you use? Cheaper? More reliable? I would like to know more.

Thanks.

I am not going to say cheaper. I am looking at well known name brands.

The quality of different manufacturers is actually different:

Some discs conform to the standards better than others, that's all...
So el cheapo might be 99% compatible, but el snobo discs are 100% compatible.

But most good drives should be able to use nearly all discs... but apparently not pioneer's
