incorrect IP address

My G4 with OS 9.2 continues to pull a bad "self assigned" IP. Leading everyone to believe that there is an issue between my cable modem and the Computer, but no one can seem to diagnose it. Another mac with OS 10.3.2 is able to get online with the same modem, cables, etc. Anyone know what would cause this bad connection. Technicians seem to think it is an internet explorer configuration somewhere or setting that needs fixed, possilby a faulty ethernet port hardware problem, but I can take the Mac to another location with a T1 connection and it works no problem. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks a million.

I'm slowly sinking in the posts of Mac-forums
Your Mac's Specs
PowerBook 12" Combo Drive/867 MHz/256 MB RAM/40 GB hard drive/Mac OS X 10.3.5/AirPort Extreme it sux
Turn the Mac off. Unplug the power and the coax cable from the modem. Wait about 30 seconds. Plug it all back in.

Thats what I have to do with crappy Comcast.
