• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Goto Tab on bottom right of workspace that says 'Editing', once there, go to top tab that says Titles and select the one you want. When you like how it looks and have the playhead set to where you want it, click 'Add'.

I can do that, i mean, say you've got the video playing, and you want to put some words over the video, while it's playing. can it be done?

I don't think so in iMovie. What you are looking for is LiveType and it's for the Final Cut series of products.

What bmcgonag said is correct, but what he forgot to mention was to ensure that the tick box is NOT ticked.

I havent used imovie for a few months (now use final cut) but the tick box when ticked puts the title (words) on a black background, whereas if its not ticked the title will be superimposed over the underlying video.
