I will be in the market for a new phone soon. I am really interested in a iphone however my question is this. If I get a iphone and don't need the phone function immediately can I use the phone as strictly a ipod until I'm ready to activate wireless service through AT&T?

Thanks,

Jon

I don't think so. As soon as you attach it to computer, itunes starts the activation process. The phone just says connect to itunes to activate and won't let you do anything else. That was my experience.

That's not technically true. You can't use the iPhone's other features after you take it out of the box, but there is a way around activation via a small piece of software.

Scroll a bit down on this page to find the Mac program that allows to quick and easy activation bypass :D
