You can use any drive that you can plug into the Mac, just format it to FAT-32. The Mac can read but not write to NTFS (at least not without additional 3rd party software) but it can read/write to FAT-32. You may have to format it as such on the Mac though, Windows 2K, XP and Vista all push you to NTFS.

Save all the stuff you need from your PC under a NTFS formatted drive, use the Mac to read it, then once everything is transfered, format it to FAT-32 so you can have effortless Mac to PC transfer.

However FAT-32 has it's limitations, it will only allow a file size of 3 or 4GB, if you intend not to use your external hard drive with a PC again then once you've transferred all your data format it using Disk Utility to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

If you use iMovie your files will end up being VERY large on a long movie.
