I have a fat32 drive connected to it. The extreme see's in ok but when i try to connect to it, the extreme reboots itself.

What version of Airport Extreme do you have? Is it the new square box looking one or is it one of the spaceship looking ones?
IIRC, the old ones did not allow the connection of a hard drive to the USB port.
