Is it possible to connect 2 different computers to a external hard drive using firewire and have both computers use the hard drive at the same time?

In my research so far, this is not the best possible route.
If you want to use the HD simultaneously you should use a Network Attached Storage (NAS).
But if it is just to transfer files from one Mac to another (I'm assuming their both Macs), this will work fine.
