Hi folks,

I want to get one of those cute clamshell iBook for my kid. But I want to make sure it supports AirPort. I've heard conflicting information, such as:

1. only the SE (graphite) supports AirPort
2. only the second generation (P1.5) supports AirPort
3. all clamshell iBook supports AirPort.

Which is correct??

Thanks for the clarification!

Ok, I've got one more question. Besides obvious hardware differences in CPU/RAM/HD, is there any other important difference between the first and the second generation clamshells? For example, I've recently bought the early generation PowerMac G4 with PCI video only to find out that they don't have internal Airport slots. I just don't want any other surprises. Thanks again.

The other two major differences you'll find among various clamshell models are the optical drives (some are simply CD-ROM, others are DVD-ROM as well) and the presence of a Firewire port on certain models. Visit http://apple-history.com for detailed information on each model.

Turn the little plastic flat head screw next to numlock to West/East position, Lift up the keyboard by pulling back on the two tabs on the keyboard on the top left and right to unfold the keyboard. Bring the top toward you and lay it on the palm rests. Underneath you'll find the slot/antenna wire.

Apple also has a document on this procedure. Search for Airport Card Install or similar.
