Is there any good free tool to find wireless networks? (And that displays information like signal strength and whether it's protected or not.) I remember seeing a link to one somewhere, but I can't find it again. Thanks.

iStumbler is simple to use and works great. I use it in San Francisco while driving around down town to find a network to send out a quick email. Shows all the info you should need.

KisMac does even more stuff. Also a great app.

I keep AirPort Radar in my Dashboard for this purpose. Another good one.

I give two thumbs up to airport radar. It tells which signals have passwords or not as well as the strength of the signal.

Kismac is long overdue for an update. It doesn't have driver support for the Intel machines.
