In programmers speak, a source file directory is where you place you source files for an application your writting. The files that make up the pre-compiled application. A compilcated application will have a root (top level) directory (folder) with possibly many other subdirectories that are also source directories. It is just a way to manage where the original content for a project. That could be for writing an program, or collecting media files for an iMovie.

If you're learning to program, buy a beginners book.
