    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. Hi, I've been downloading a few .avi files on my iMac and viewing the files on VLC is fine but when it comes to burning the files to DVD (through Toast 7), some are perfect after burning but some have video but do not have audio. Any suggestions for how I could fix this?

I am not too sure on this but I will try....

Won't it depend on what type of .avi file you have. I think .avi is just a container and can contain things like Xvid, Divx and many others. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. Maybe this is why you have the issues... Hopefully someone with a bit more experience can help further??

EDIT : Could also be something to do with audio codecs too. Maybe there is an option in whatever program you are using to convert the audio to MP3 and it cannot find the codec to convert it.

I had the same problem a few months ago, i found out that DVD players (or the Mac "DVD Player" program) only read mpeg-2 for a synchronised audio/visual video.

i had downloaded iVCD (a free application, i believe)... but for some reason it doesnt work properly anymore. My only help i can give you at this point is to find an AVI to MPEG-2 converter.
