Verizon puts its proprietary interface on ALL of the phones it sells. The main gripes people have with it is that the menu system tends to be slow and buggy, and Verizon has a habit of disabling or crippling many features on the phones so that customers are forced to use Verizon only methods to get stuff like ringtones (which obviously cost money).

But on the upside, here in the PNW they have far better service than anyone else, and for someone like me who has a very basic phone (very basic Nokia without a camera, mainly because of where I work, I can't have a camera phone), it is wonderful.

In the mountain states they (Verizon) have the best coverage by far.
Cingular was crap.

A whole different game here in AK.

No Verizon doesn't have the rights to sell it, it's just that many people complain about that fact. That's what iRye was saying with this post.
I also live in the PNW and almost everyone here uses and really praises Verizon. The service is great, but no iphone for us if we don't switch and I just signed up for 2 more years.

But yes... I always wondered about how weird it was that my verizon friends menus were all exactly the same... odd that the phone complanies let them do it.

Why doesn't Verizon just listen to customers complaints and FIX IT?

Instead of just expecting them to deal with it?

...although that seems to be what is happening...

When your customers are locked into two-year contracts, who cares about complaints? They have to pay you anyway.

There are ways to add ringtones and other things for most phones, but I bet 3/4 of the people with Verizon phones have no idea how. I have an LG VX 8500 aka the Chocolate, and I use BitPim to put ringtones and wallpapers on my phone.

Bluetooth only allows me to send Contact Cards, which is a bummer, but other than that I have no complaints.

My Verizon Blackberry is no different than friends' Cingular Blackberries. What am I supposedly missing?

We use Verizon because it's incredibly reliable, broadest coverage I've found within CONUS, and most of our customer service experiences have been positive. In comparison, I know dozens of people who have switched from Cingular or Sprint to Verizon, at least here in the DC area.

A lot of Verizons phones are stripped down to the basics. Yours may be an exception. What model is it?

Who, me? I have a Blackberry. I think it's a 7250 but I couldn't swear to the model number.

If Blackberry, Palm, and Windows phones are sold by Verizon with the same feature set as non-Verizon versions, then it's not hard to conclude that the iPhone -- which will be popular specifically because of its advanced feature set -- will also come without any reduction in features.
