Mac cannot open the websites

Hi,

I have received my computer at our new flat share where we have a broadband connection with a netgear dsl modem. I connected the computer with the modem and it shows the message, that there is an internetconnection via ethernet. But when I open Safari or Internet Explorer, the computer cannot found the websites, but shows me the message "server not found".
Can anyone help me please?

Have you gone into Network in System Preferences and configured your connection? That would be the first step.
