Just bought an ibook today. Mainly its just a toy but got me thinking. I wonder what everyone else uses their laptops for. This is my first Mac and my first laptop.

I plan to be my entire life all wrapped in this little thing. Ill store all my mp3, photos, files, etc. Try and manage my money/bills, keep up with things to do/calendar stuff, etc...

just curious of what cool/neat things you guys do and what programs you use on a regular basis

I surf the web. Hold back your gasps, because I know this is earth shattering.

Edit: I too use mine for everything. Every other computer in our house (still in high school, so I live with my parents) is a PC so I avoid using those as much as possible.

I do all of the things that you've mentioned, and then some. I use Quicken via Parallels for money management, and I use iWeb to manage my website. Photoshop CS3 beta is my image editing app of choice, although I use iPhoto to import & store my photos, mainly for the awesome slide-show features that are navigable with my remote. I use FireFox for web browsing, and Mail for email. iCal is a great tool for keeping track of appointments & stuff, and I use Address Book for keeping track of contacts - and an added bonus - synching with my iPod, so I'm never at a loss for an email address at work. I do use Boot Camp to load up XP to play games, but that's about all that I use Windows for.

I do everything on mine, from websurfing and IM to music and photos to typing papers and managing money. I don't have a desktop machine here at school with me anymore.

I use mine for almost everything except downloading and storing music and movies. For that I use the shotty PC in my sig, connected to my TV via s-video. My setup, for a broke college kid, is pretty sweet.

Right now I'm being a nerd and using my MBP on my 22" widescreen... for no reason other than I can. Well, and I freed up the DVI input on my LCD by moving my Mini to my wife's desk...

I use my macbook for everything except:

Storage: I have a debian based file server for that
Bit-torrent: I have a debian based file server for that ;-)
Remote shell access: My old Toshiba Satellite Pro is literally up 24/7
The KIDS: They have a thinkpad each.

any and all things.

-> photoshop/illustrator/indesign (often all at once).
-> ripping/watching movies (legally owned DVDs, naturally).
-> surfing (though it suffers after a few hours in the waves [wink!]).
-> listening to music.
-> swatting at flies.

and, of course, the popular answer -- keeping my sperm count low.

They're gonna hate macs when they get older. lol Thats why you start em on a mac!

Well, the sound doesn't work anymore so theres only a couple uses. Word and Powerpoints I do for school, IM, Internet, IRC, sometimes a little Photosdhop when im bored. Honestly it makes a good book replacement on the john, my second office.

Well I take it back. Thats a good bit of uses for an old iBook. All im missing is music.

With my old HP I would play GTA Vice City in class after I finished my work. lol

I kind of hate bringing the iBook to school though. Even the teachers hate on me because I got a mac. lol
