Well you might want to look up Fred Miranda reviews (http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/) for your next lens. It all depends on your needs, really, and what type of photography interests you.

More reviews here, BobAtkins (http://bobatkins.com/photography/). And a few reviews here as well, Luminous Landscape (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/index.shtml) and Digital Outback (http://www.outbackphoto.com/reviews/reviews.html).

Some members are great photographers so I'm sure you can start a thread and ask suggestions.

Like MHC said, it would be best to know what you need it for, but without that info I'd suggest the Nikon 18-200mm. Pretty pricey, but does (almost) everything. I wish I could afford it...

well, maybe it's the lighting. looks maybe like a desk lamp brought in sort of close and at an angle from the left.

i'm imagining standing a nickel on a desk in front of me about 8 inches away from meand turned just slightly so the near edge is to my right. then bringing my face just a bit closer and then slightly to the left. the pic is definitely taken from above more than straight on.

MacHeadCase

Funny, I never tried standing a nickel on its side. I didn't know it could stand like that, that it would be thick enough for this. Thanks for the explanation, eric.

You're telling me.. I use my RAZR for a lot of the photos I take. Surprisingly, at 1.3 MP, it takes pics at 1280x1024 resolution and of reasonable quality. Also, you can set the lighting settings and even have an "antique" look to it. Pretty d@mn good for a camera phone if you ask me.

Ok, so for us older technology ignorant people how do you get the photograph from your phone to your MAC?

moss918
03-12-2007, 02:19 PM
I find Bluetooth is easiest. Just turn your BT on in the menu bar and make your Mac discoverable, then find the pic you want on your phone and choose Options / Send Via Bluetooth / Then search for your mac and send it. Should go through to your "Documents" folder.

Obviously different phones may differ in the process but this is pretty general...

Odin_aa
03-13-2007, 09:58 AM
I hate to bring the topic so far off...but will give it a try again. I had turned on the bluetooth and tried to look at the phone as a disk (at the time I wanted to load a song as a ringtone) but was never able to do so. I have a Razr, will try again tonight.

Stretch
03-13-2007, 11:44 AM
What version Razr do you have, and who is your provider?

Odin_aa
03-13-2007, 12:00 PM
Verizon is the provider and the only marking on the phone is VM3 under the battery compartment

Stretch
03-13-2007, 12:02 PM
So it has the mini SD card slot under the battery cover? Since it's a verizon phone, you cant use bluetooth to transfer the photos, thank Verizon for that.

moss918
03-13-2007, 12:04 PM
They disable the Bluetooth? Wheres the sense in that?!?

Odin_aa
03-13-2007, 12:05 PM
Darn it, just put the cover back on the phone...if there is an SD card slot in the phone its a item I never knew about. Will have to check that out.

Ah, Verizon is the problem. One of the reasons I picked the phone was the bluetooth capabilities, assuming at the time I could use it and the MAC in conjunction for some things.

Stretch
03-13-2007, 12:06 PM
I can sync my address book over bluetooth, thats it. THey do it so people will be forced to pay for their crappy vcast service to get ringtones and photos onto and off their phones.

Odin_aa
03-13-2007, 12:16 PM
Are you able to do ringtone uploads with an SD card? I went the route of recording what I wanted with the phone and then assigning that recording as the ring...it is quiet and crappy sounding.

Stretch
03-13-2007, 12:22 PM
I think so, but you doesnt work exactly as you would think. Do a google search, there are numerous sites about getting around vcast.

puaerotch
03-13-2007, 01:49 PM
if you have "pix messaging" you can send the pictures to your email address. As for ringtones, you can make them in iTunes (convert to .wav format with a sample rate of 22.050) then send them to your phone with https://www.vzwpix.com/ You will then be able to save them as ringtones. Of course all this requires that you have a pix/txt messaging plan.

I'm planning on gong back when the sun is out to take some better pictures. Where you can see the railings in this photo there is a bank just past it that you can stand on to get a better view of the bridge's belly. I didn't dare stand there yesterday though because it was far too windy!

these are some quick shots. I know they are not the best, but you guys wanted to see them.

The first one is the church. Its called Second Church, and it is in Boston, more specifically, Dorchester, a community of boston.

The second one is of the bell in the church. Yes that is Paul Revere and his company's bell. Its worth over 1 million dollars.

The church itself is about 200 years old, but the doorknob was in a part that was built about 150 years ago. These pictures were taken at a peace rally to stop the violence in the neighborhood.

On average, most of my 5MB photos come out between 3 and 5MB. The maximum limit on this thread is 1MB. How do I decrease the MB while I keep the quality? I selected email attachment for this photo and I lost some of the color quality.
These two trees are our California Native, Sugar Bush on the left (evergreen) and Western Red Bud.

Hey johntalin!

Grab whichever photo editor you like, open the image and then resave it as a jpeg. When you go to save it, usually the program will ask what quality you want the JPEG to be. Keep trying it until you get it under the limit without the image looking terrible :)

Aaah Right ok...

it still looks pretty good to me, What program are you doing this with?

I wouldnt worry THAT much about quality since afterall, a 1mb limit is never going to be huge showcase quality but is a great thread to just post your pics :)

these are some quick shots.

That's a great shot of the church. I love the color of the sky.

Thanks man, I actually hate that shot, it was a quick shot with no thought to it. I didn't even want to post it, but people wanted to see the church.

Love the color very nice shot, but wow you need to blow the dust off your sensor

heres mine, taken in exeter devon on a Canon 350d with a 55mm lens.

only put a do not copy on it as it is currently being looked at by my local newspaper to print it in it. So just for precautions. Thanks anyway.

Wow! For someone living in The Great White North, that photo is a vision of dreams. (Heh. We had lots of snow this winter...)

Great shot, I love the blue of the sky and the tan colours. And that's a giant of a cactus! Ooh wheeh!

Thanks, MHC! Sometimes I feel like I'm living in a painting out here in the desert!! About all your snow, winter really made up for it's extremely mild intro, eh? :yinyang:

Absolutely! I think that's what made me shut up from b*tching about the snow and cold: I was scared to death when I saw grass growing back on the lawns in early December. Egads! :o

Our snow has just about completely melted. Its been in the 50s for the past week, and will continue again this week. I think this winter has been one of the shortest ones, since it didn't really start until January.

We had a warm winter day, close to 100F this year. I hate warm winters.

The tall one is, yes. (I think the one against the house is called an "organ pipe.")
