Maybe this is a dumb question but, when you are not using the wireless (bedtime, vacation, etc.) should you turn off the Airport base station? It seems kind of strange to just leave it on...forever. But maybe this is common practice.

And if you should turn it off, how the heck do you do it?

I keep my router on 24/7. I am not too worried about someone accessing my network because it is encrypted, has MAC filtering enabled, and I do not transmit my SSID.

To turn it off, I believe the only way is to unplug it (I have a Linksys WRT54G). You may want to do this if power consumption is your interest.

If access to the internet is your interest you can disable internet access during specific times and days through the router set up. My Linksys has this option and I am assuming the Apple Airport Base Station has similar options.
