We've bought a 17" TFT for an old G4 PowerMac running OS 9.2.2 (GeForce 2MX card). It's fine and crisp at 1280 x 1024, but it's just too small and a bit of a strain. 1024 x 768 would be the perfect resolution, which looks fine on a CRT, but on this TFT it looks horrendously blurry at anything other than 1280 x 1024. I've tried all sorts of refresh rates but it only likes the one resolution.

Is this standard for TFTs or an OS 9 thing? It's a fairly cheap V7 monitor, but we've tried an IBM Thinkvision and that only looks slightly less blurry at 1024 x 768.

LCD monitors have a "natural resolution" which is the one they are supposed to be used at. While you can choose a different resolution, it will look blurry and often, horrible. This is true with any LCD on any computer. It's just a physical limitation of LCD technology.

That's a pain. I've noticed, after buying, that they all have a native resolution. I just assumed you could use any, as with a CRT.

A 20" widescreen looks fantastic at 1680 x 1050, but a 17" pulls your eyes out at 1280 x 1024!
