I have a 800 mhz emac with 384mb ram and 40gb hd, i have an acomdata 160gb external hd. I was using final cut express to capture a video onto my internal hard drive, but it ran out of disk space so i transferred the file that did get captured to the external hd. I try to play it back from the ex-hd and it has an extreme lag during playback, then i come to find out that every video played from the external has an extreme lag. I think it is because it is connected via USB 1.0, Does anyone know what the problem is. and how to fix it.

If you want to avoid lag, you'll need to connect the harddrive via a faster connection.

Since your eMac doesn't have USB 2.0, I'd suggest buying an external firewire enclosure for your drive. That should definitely be fast enough.
