Hi all. My first post on the mac forums.

It is possible that I may need a new notebook soon (I am going back to university in th UK this month) and have been interested in the new macbook. I noticed that apple have a shop for education and a shop for higher education. Is there any difference between the two? I can't check out the higher education store because I have to be on campus to do that apparently. I can get a 10% discount where I work and am just wondering if apple can beat that. I would be grateful if anyone with any knowledge about it could help me out.

Thanks alot.

You don't have to be anywhere special to shop in the Education Store. Just select 'Education Store' from the drop-down menu when you visit the Online Store.
And as mentioned, you could get the base model MacBook cheaper with your 10 percent discount.

In the UK they have it set up so that you can't access your schools store unless you are on their network

I think I'll just take the 10% discount then. I suppose it's always good to have the backup from a customer service team that you know personally. That means I can get the base model for about £675 ($1300), and add RAM myself later. Thanks guys :)

If you have your UCAS number or something you can get the HE discount via the phone! its around 15% and the base model Macbook is £643

BTW i have the url for the HE discount page, i believe you get asked for proof of being in university during the order process, i don't have to worry about using the url because i have the required proof.

That's interesting! Will have a look into that then. I think I can no longer resist the mystery of OSX. I need to see what all the fuss is about.

why bother, you still have to pay tax. IMHO shop over internet or ebay is a better way becuase usually it is cheaper, and sometimes online venders even offer rebates, and for most of time, no tax.

My bad. Learn something new every day. I wonder why it's like that in the UK but not over here? Hmmm...

That's for the HE discount, the normal education discount anyone could, i guess, access... You just put in the name and city of your college/uni...

No, you can access the reguler education store, but you only get 8% off Apple products, the HE (Higher Education) store you can ONLY access within the University/College's LAN, the discounts in the HE store range from 15-50% and you can access this SAME discoun if you order over the phone and ask about it, you WILL need proof however.
