How about a follow-up poll: If you own an Intel Mac, was this your first Mac, or an additional Mac?

iWonder
06-12-2006, 02:33 AM
How much did you sell your iBook for?

Aptmunich
06-12-2006, 02:55 AM
650... Through my university's store the Low-end macbook with an 80GB drive costs 950, so I'm paying 300 and will have a brand new mac.

I figure if I wait another year I'll only get half of that for my iBook, and it's starting to feel slow now already...

Compare with http://www.macpolls.com/

"What kind of Mac do you (primarily) own"

They had over 75% PowerPC, 20% Intel, and a handful of others. I'd wager we get a lot more recent switchers with shiny new Intel stuff here at M-F.

dtravis7
06-12-2006, 04:22 AM
That seems like the patern. A lot of the new switchers are getting the Intel Macs. I got the Core Duo Mini becase of it's small size and that is can play 1080p very smooth so It's going into my Entertainment center in the front room. I would have used the older Mini but it will in no way play HD smooth. I still use the G4 and G5 machines for most of my work though.

I bought 2 macs in the last 5 months, my 20" iMac (Intel), and recently bought my 15" MacBook Pro (Intel). I never had a PPC Mac. Intel all the way for me.........

The majority of the switchers aren't going to be buying PowerMacs...

Mac Mini. My first mac product EVER. I always criticized and complained about Macs. I hated OS 9, hated older OS's period, nothing was good aobut them from what I saw..

Finally buckled down and tried OS X. Then noticed bootcamp, then realized I didn't *have* to use just OS X. Then when I saw it run WinXP natively on the architexture.. Let's just say it put away all my worries.

I still run OS X primarily, but it's really nice to have dual boot.

Btw since I've had my mac mini (about a month) I've shown and converted about 6 people thus far. They first go "Mac? Eww".. then "hey that's kind of cool (size). Hey that's really cool (WinXP Native). Wow that's awesome (Os X). I should get one when I can afford it (end of convo)." :)

Pierre

Mac Mini. My first mac product EVER. I always criticized and complained about Macs. I hated OS 9, hated older OS's period, nothing was good aobut them from what I saw..

I was the same way for many years. I could never get the point of the one button "mouse puck" back in the day. I think it was the combo of Apple using Intel chips, Mac OS X Tiger, easier support for working in an XP network, compatibility with Office documents, etc that made me consider the switch now instead of years ago. My new (first) iMac I have now is the best thing I ever bought.

Pierre
06-13-2006, 02:23 PM
I agree with you on that one. I always used to try and find excuses to not use a Mac. Then I became obsessed with them after seeing my friend's iBook :-D. I've never bought a better computer than my Macbook.

hi

the macbook is now my proud possession. this follows my first mac
which was the imac g5.

very pleased with both of them, my daughters have a g3 and g4 ibooks.
my only niggle (there is always one) is with the battery life on the
macbook, - it's to say the least disappointing.

ages to charge and poor life, compared with the g4 ibook

kind regards

i have a 20" intel imac and it was my first mac. i guess i went back in time when i bought my g4 ibook last week. the g4 is perfectly good for what i use it for, so i had no need for an intel notebook in addition to the imac.

Mini 1.66 maxed out. i would of gone with the 20" iMac but i didn't need another screen nor keyboard and the mini does all that i pretty much need.

the dedicated graphics would of been nice though

Dude I feel like a frikkin minority with a G5- but I know lotsa G5ers here who got an Intel Mac recently, so the "old crowd"'s still around. I'll wait, and have sweet victory once the whole transition is over and the threads of universal binary trouble and rosetta are of the past. Muahahaha.

I guess you could say my first computer was a Mac, Apple IIE, then Apple IIC, and then Apple IIGS. After I went to PC. Back to Mac now and I couldn't be happier.

My first Mac: An 13" Intel MacBook, 1.83ghz, bumped to 1GB of RAM and an 80GB HD. I didn't buy one because Apple switched to Intel; I've wanted one for a few months and was originally planning to pick up a 12" PowerBook.

I'm impressed with OS X, and I plan on purchasing a desktop, either the Mac Mini (after it gets its update) or an iMac (whichever I can afford, because I'm not going to get any help with this purchase, because the 'rents just bought me a brand new PC desktop without my knowledge).

Yup. Me = MacBook, wife = iMac. I also had a 2ghz Core Duo Mini, but I sold that to get the MacBook. I would gladly go back to the Mini if I didn't need the portability.

Do what I did, I sold the copy of XP Pro SP2 so there is no way for me to run Windows on it again. No need to either as I have plenty of Real PC,s to do that. :spook:
