Earlier I hit a web page that said I had to clean my Mac cause it discovered multiple viruses on my system.

I'm not sure what to do- I had downloaded "Advanced Mac Cleaner" but it requires I pay to get the system cleaned. I'm kind of stuck on what to do if its something REALLY serious or what. I'm hoping someone could direct me to maybe better (FREE) app for cleaning up my mac and removing viruses. Below is the message / status I get from the Mac Cleaner.

*sorry in advance if this is posted in the wrong place. 27717

Please don't fall for this. It's all scare tactics to make you think you need to buy something you don't need. If you are still worried, you should grab a copy of MalwareBytes (https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/) (free) and run that. For routine maintanence, you can grab a copy of OnyX (https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html) (free) and run that.

Do not purchase/run anything else.

OK --- thank you. I did NOT purchase anything. Just kind of panicked. Now I guess the question is how can I totally remove the Advanced Mac Cleaner totally from my system. I don't want something lingering around sending info or out there.

...I had downloaded "Advanced Mac Cleaner" but it requires I pay to get the system cleaned.

This was your first mistake. Downloading & installing "Advanced Mac Cleaner". You don't need Mac-Cleaner...and there are no Mac virus's to be removed.

Mac Cleaner says "465 Issues found". Did you happen to read the details of the Mac Cleaner report??? 365 of the 465 "issues" are extra languages. Extra languages are not a problem...they are part of the OS install.

Why are you even using the word "Virus"?? No where in the Mac Cleaner report is the word "virus" used. If you don't see the word "VIRUS" you SHOULD NOT be using it!!!

p.s. Close the app...and delete it...problem solved!;)

These sorts of apps are pervasive in how they install themselves in all sorts of places and removing them requires you jumping through a bunch if hoops.

Follow this guide (https://malwarefixes.com/get-rid-of-advanced-mac-cleaner/) to remove the app.

Follow this guide (https://malwarefixes.com/get-rid-of-advanced-mac-cleaner/) to remove the app.

I had run to OnyX app and it trashed a bunch of files. Then I've gone back and done the steps in the guide you posted but didn't find any of the Advanced Mac Cleaner files. It also doesn't seem to be in my applications folder anymore. I'm hoping the OnyX found and deleted said files.

Really, really appreciate the help.
