Hello I am attempting to study for this test but then in the middle of nowhere, I open youtube and clicked 'my channel' and when that happened in the middle of nowhere Avast started to spam VBS:Malware-gen. At first it wasn't really a big deal until I did some research and found out that it could either be avast false popups or an actual 'worm'. I scanned my laptop and it came out clean until I decided to disable my web shield and get a notification from my 'file system' shield that a VBS:Malware-gen virus was sent to the virus chest. I immediately deleted it and then 10 minutes later the popups came back, it tends to only come when i'm google chrome. The url of the VBS:Malware-gen is also linked to google. Please help!2592725927

Download, install, and run Malwarebytes for Mac, https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/. What browser are you using?

For the browsers I use, I install Ghostery, https://www.ghostery.com, AdBlock Plus, https://adblockplus.org, and up until recently, a Flash blocker as well. I don't install Flash any more, so I don't need it anymore, however, if you use Chrome, it has it's own Flash, which you may want to block.

Welcome to the forum.

Uninstall Avast, you don't need or want it on your Mac. There are NO viruses for Macs in the wild, and no known vectors by which one can be created. Avast is throwing a false positive for you from a Windows virus that cannot infect your system. Even Avast says the warnings are false: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=32894.0

Reinforcing as advised above. Avast spreads malware.
