Problem is it will not Shutdown or restart
Noticed Finder will not start and this is when the shutdown problem started .

Not good. And as this is a 2010 model Apple declares it obsolete. Have you got another hard drive you coulod try?

Usually this is caused by some process that can't be quit, and because the process can't be quit, shutdown is cancelled.

You can find the culprit by using Activity Monitor, which resides in your Applications/Utilities folder.

Quit all running apps, and then see what is still running in Activity Monitor. If you find something that is suspect, highlight it and hit the Quit button.

Or check the list of apps running in Force Quite under tha Apple menu. Any "not responding" apps can be forced to quite there. Then if this helps we can trouble shoot the offending app.
