Thinking of getting an inexpensive Windows laptop to serve as a back-up for my Mac. I would like to transfer the .doc and .mov files to it.
Can this be done?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

It can be done. File transfer from Mac to Windows is not as easy as the other way around, because Windows drives will show up in Finder and can be dragged and dropped at will. Mac drives don't show up in the same way in Windows Explorer.

That said, you can use an external HDD or a thumb drive to transfer files. Copy, switch the storage device to the other computer and drag them over.

.mov files are Quicktime movies, as you likely know, and QT is available for Windows, so you can use them on Windows as well as store them.

Be aware to handle the .doc, and more probably .docx, files you will need Microsoft Office, or some program that can read the files, on both computers.
