I have iMac 21.5 Inch (Mid 2011) with 8 GB Ram, 2TB SSHD, New HL-DT-ST DVDRW GA32N and tried to install windows 7 (32 Bit) on it using Boot Camp Assistant.
I have already downloaded & copied Boot Camp Software 4.0.4033.zip from here -> https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630?locale=en_US to my 16 GB Pen Drive MS-DOS (FAT32)

The installation succeeded and windows 7 loaded just fine 1st time, I created UserID and Password, Setup Time etc.. using apple keyboard then installed the apple drivers on it from my 16 GB Pen drive. My Magic Mouse seems to works but my Keyboard doesn’t get detected

Then I've tried to reboot so the changes would take effect, and since then my Windows doesn’t Boot or Run Windows 7

Now if i start my iMac hold the Option Key i get Machintosh HDD, Windows, Recovery 10.11.4 and DVD Windows. If i select Windows or DVD Windows it starts Booting then Black Screen appears followed by this Message on the screen “Press any Key to Boot from CD or DVD . . . .”

If i press any key it starts booting from DVD and gives me option to Install Windows and if i don’t press any key then nothing happens

Windows doesn’t Boot from BootCamp HDD and I’m left with no option but to press Power Button to Shutdown iMac.

Luckily my El Capitan is working fine but my Windows doesn’t Boot. I’ve tried 2 times installing windows 7 32 Bit on my BootCamp HDD.

So any Help I don’t understand what am i doing wrong I would really appreciate if some one with knowledge of bootcamp can guide me so that i can run Windows as well OSX on my iMac.

Thanks in advance.

Just a thought. When I installed Windows 7 followed by an upgrade to Windows 10, I did not download the drivers from apple - bootcamp did that for me. I will also say I installed the 64-bit version of both OS.

Check this link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468

In it you will see they recommend the 64-bit version. I am willing to bet that the drivers you loaded are written for the 64-bit version of Windows.

You might well be on the right track Lisa. I wondered about installing the 32-bit version of Windows on that machine. It didn't dawn on me that the downloaded driver might not match (32 vs. 64 bit). Driver issues would certainly led to the behavior the OP is experiencing.

And whilst it does not help, using the 32bit version memory is limited to about 2.8GB, whereas the 64bit version recognises whatever is installed in your iMac.

Further, BootCamp Assistant under El Capitan is version 6.0.1 so maybe there are later drivers available than the set you used which was released in 2013. It may also pay to double check the exact model of your iMac as Model 13.1 and later cannot handle Windows 7 32bit at all.

You need to read all the posts already provided. We are trying to help you. Apple says only the 64-bit version will run in Bootcamp 6.0.1 - not the 32-bit. Also the bootcamp drivers you are downloading are for bootcamp version 4 and you are using bootcamp version 6 - which came with El Capitan. I seriously doubt they will work.

According to this article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205016 - you will need to find and download bootcamp 4 to install your version of Windows. I hesitate to recommend that as Apple does not provide the download but there are sites that do but I am unfamiliar with them.

Sorry did know you were talking regarding my issue, I'm new to Bootcamp. So for my iMac with El Capitan, I have BootCamp Assistant ver 6.0.1 and to Install Windows I would need Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate 64 Bit OS & would have to download Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621

You can install any version of Windows 7 as long as it is a 64-bit version using bootcamp 6.0.1. You should not need the support software as bootcamp will install the drivers. I was running windows 7 pro 64-bit on El Capitan successfully. I upgraded the Windows 7 install to Windows 10 64-bit successfully. I never had to download any support software. All the drivers were supplied by bootcamp during the install and the Windows 7 drivers worked with Windows 10.
