This is great news for folks who purchased a MacBook Air or rMBP and went with a small SSD to save money. Now they can upgrade to a larger SSD if they need the space. However, if you go to the OWC article you can see the introductory price is a bit steep:

Kit:

480GB – $449.99 (MSRP); $399.00 (Introductory Price)
1TB – $719.99 (MSRP); $649.00 (Introductory Price)

OWC Aura SSD Only:

480GB – $379.99 (MSRP); $347.99 (Introductory Price)
1TB – $649.99 (MSRP); $597.99 (Introductory Price)

Has anyone installed one of these? I have a 2015 MBP 12,1 (2.7GHz, 128GB) and was concerned with the read/write speeds. I would like to upgrade to the 1TB model, but OWC specs claim a read speed of about 763 MB/s and a write speed of about 446 MB/s; my factory SSD gets a read speed of about 1174 MB/s and a write speed of about 630 MB/s. I'm wondering if there will be a noticeable lag and if I should wait for faster replacement drives to become available in the future.

Why don't you give the support folks at OWC a call and ask. They have a toll free support line and are always willing to answer questions and make recommendations.
