Please help me with my iTunes library!

I recently re-ripped all of my cd's in Apple lossless to my MBPr's portable ssd, it was previously in lossy format mostly 128kbps. My library now takes up 102GB on my portable ssd. When I sync my iPhone to iTunes and send all of my music over to my phone it only takes up 44.6GB. Why is there such a difference in size of the exact same library. Dose iTunes compress my music to a different format to go on my iPhone?

2017 27" iMac, 10.5" iPad Pro, iPhone 8, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Mini, Numerous iPods, Monterey
Check the music which is on your iPhone. Are they all in MP3 format? If they are, that would be the difference.
