New to this site.

Hi I'm new to this site and not sure how it works. I'm from Cumbria and the nearest Apple shop is 30-40 miles away.

Suggest the first thing you do is fill out your profile, especially the info about your Apple products so that if you have a query you don't have to explain every time.

Welcome! If you have a question about your Mac, find the appropriate forum and post it. That's about it. You should get a response fairly quickly from someone. We have visitors world-wide so somebody is around pretty much 24/7. Badshoehabit's suggestion to fill out your profile is a good one, also if you read the excellent post I've linked to in my sig, that will tell you what we may need to know to be able to help.

Everybody here is, AFAIK, a volunteer, but we do love to help when we can.

I've learnt so much simply by trawling through subject areas.

You guys are lucky if there are Apple Stores within easy drives. Here in Oz find there absolutely no service from Authorised Resellers. Quoted three weeks to pop in an SSD to an iMac 21.5" which is listed as one to one and half hour's labour for a qualified technician, and then the only two local Resellers are 70 and 140 mile round trips, and 300 miles each way to a genuine Apple Store.

So that was my excuse for buying a new iMac from Apple Online!

15 minute drive to our Apple Store Harry. Another half hour to find a parking space, and then a 2 or 3 block walk lugging an iMac. Finally get in the door, and you can't even see the genius bar because it's so crowded. And don't even think about trying to get in on a Saturday or Sunday. But it's worth it because the service is so doggone good. ;D

Welcome to this Forum from an Aussie expat living in Bali, Indonesia. My nearest Apple Service Centre, about 4 hrs away by plane. I get as much from this forum as I give plus a sense of community that I don't get on any other web site, I'm sure you will find the same. :Blushing:

Our nearest proper Apple Store is in downtown Vancouver, so a ferry ride and then a hour bus ride into the city. Victoria is too small (or so I thought until Halifax got one!) to support it, and though there are times when I would dearly love one here, I think of what it would do to our mostly good local dealers (and we have A LOT of those -- this is a VERY Apple town!) and then I think no, maybe its best that there not be one here ...

Alas my local Apple Resellers ar also HP dealers and I often wonder how many Apple buyers are turned to the HP product?

Nearest Apple store is just over an hour from me. Fortunately there is a BestBuy in town the stock fundamental Apple items, but no Genius bar.

I must be lucky - I've got three of them within 20km of my place (and one is only about 3.5k).

I don't think size of town has anything to do with it - I grew up in a town of 80,000 or so people and it has an Apple Store. Granted, it's a big mall, draws in people from different places and is only about a 30 min drive north of Toronto.

Same here, only I have two that are within about three times that distance, still not that far.
