I would like to learn Unix as it applies to Terminal in OS X Leopard 10.5.8. Is it enough to look for Books about Unix or do I need a reference to said operating system?

Does anyone have suggestions about reference books that are written in language that the novice can understand?

And\or is there anyone out there who would like to act as a tutor?

Part one of my project is to create a new desktop image for the Guest Account that is not deleted upon log out or shut down.

Thanks for your advice,
Mike G R

If you want to learn Unix in a safe environment, you might want to set up a Linux or BSD VM and tinker in that. Since most of the underlying Unix OS is basically the same across all three (mostly - there are certainly some unique things), starting there is a really safe way to go.
