wow thats an awesome gallery you have!! Did you use any lighting equipment for the ones of your little brother or is it all sunlight. Anyway, they're excellent, and inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! The windows in my folk's living room are set in from the porch enough that once it gets past noon it is almost like having 4 giant softboxes into the living room... Other than that I just used a piece of white foam core and a light from my dad's woodshop to blow out the background.

I like the portrait at the top the best.
Out of the Skateboarding pics I feel that the first one is best.

Here are a couple of pictures I took this weekend on our drive to a vineyard here in Kentucky. I have several other shots I like, but tell me what you think. This was my first outing with my new Casio EX-Z750.

Thanks, I will get some other ones hosted and get a link up for them. I didn't do any post processing on them with photoshop yet, and I see what you mean. For some reason, where I was with the horses all the pictures appeared darker.

my first post in this type of thread. my aspirations always have a way of outgunning my talent, but i still really like how this picture turned out.

really great shot. what did you use to achieve the look around the edge of the picture?

Odin_aa

Thanks,

This started out as color out of camera:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/kurtschneid/Portraits/_NAR1490orig.jpg

I converted it to B&W with something I have been playing with, start with a new adjustment layer using the gradient and hitting the reverse button, then an adjustment layer for contrast and one for levels to taste. For the levels, I have been moving the white slider over to where some white is blown or just about to be blown out when I want a "dreamy" look as in this photo.

To get the faded boarder, you use a selection tool in this case rectangular and select toward the outside of the image, I think it was 1/4 inch in all directions for this one then reverse selection and set the feather to a limit such as 30. You then apply another levels or curves adjustment blowing out the edges and it feathers inward.

I am not the best teacher, so I hope that was understandable.

Are you using iPhoto to do this?

Odin_aa
04-23-2006, 11:28 PM
No, I have never used iphoto. This is done in photoshop, it can also be done in elements (another adobe product) however I have no experience with other applications

techster82

I have photoshop elements 4.0 for the PC. I am going to play around with it and see what I come up with. Thanks for the answer.
