If you installed Windows 7 x 32 bit then yes, it's normal. Windows 7 x 64 bit will recognize and use all your memory.

You will in some ways - you'll have access to more RAM and can handle it more efficiently. So, if you're running low on memory, a 64bit OS will help.

Some Windows 7 systems included both 32bit and 64bit CDs for the install. Hope yours is one of them.

When I purchased my Windows 7 DVD it came with both the 32 and 64 bit versions, but I'm not sure if it's still sold that way.
