I just changed from Windows. Is there a need for any AV software on this machine? Currently running it as delivered. Thanks.

Most of us long term users do not use AV software. Consider this. There are no Mac OS X viruses so if you run AV software it will download Windows virus definitions only. Windows viruses cannot install on the Unix operating systtem. Having said that there is malware and adware. Suggest you consider AdBlockPlus, Ghostery and Malwarebytes for Mac to combat these nasties.

As a general tip use wise browsing habits, avoid pirate and porn sites and do not download anything from softonic or CNET as, the same as Widnows, they include nasty little adware bugs. If you are to install Windows on your Mac, Bootcamp, VM etc., always install Windows AV software on that partition. Do a search of the forum about AV software.

The legit places to download legal Mac software safely:

1. The Mac App Store
2. The developer's own site.
3. MacUpdate.com

Bundle sites like HumbleBundle are fine as well, but these are the day-to-day big three.

And if you are faced with pop-up's that ask you to install something there is the one golden rule .... " If you did not specifically went looking for it, don't install it ! "
Only install apps directly from the vendor's website !
Avoid Flash and Java is you can, and if you can't .... update it frequently and directly from the vendor's website.

Cheers ... McBIe

Many thanks, I generally follow good practice and interesting about Softonic and CNET. Will avoid them.
