I just installed office 365 on my vmware virtual machine windows 7. I didn't opt for the mac version of 365 as it's still behind it's windows counterpart.

Is anyone who has this installed on their windows have hangups? I get the spinning blue ball and excel locks up.

I am planning to upgrade from win 7 to windows 10 as soon as available while I wait for the office for mac 2016 to be finalized and released.

I didn't subscribe to Office 365 because I already have Windows Office 2010 and Mac Office 2011 (which Office 365 Mac subscribers receive), however, I'm running the Office 2016 Preview and so far it's solid. If your Office 365 is hanging, remove it and re-download.

Silly question I know, but any chance you downloaded whilst booted from OS X? If so you got Office 2011. You will need to be booted from Windows 7 to get the correct version.

I downloaded the 2016 preview as well and it seems very good. I didn't keep it on though, figured I would wait until the official is released.

I did download MS office while in my windows virtual machine. I will try re-downloading and see if that helps.

I've been using the Office Preview for a while too for work on my Mac (never opened Office 2011 since installing) and it has been superb.

Can't see why you would rather use a VM to run office when the exact same look/feel and features are now on the Mac? I need to run a VM for two programs and find it a pain going through the extra hoop when browsing to the home directory etc.

I installed the 365 version of Office in my Windows VM and it ran like a charm. If you're running into hangups, it might be because the VM doesn't have enough memory. How much memory do you have allocated to the VM?

VM is being used to run Windows 7 and the question is about Office 365 there. Also is yor Windows 7 install 64bit?

this is a good question. I will have to check. I have 16 in my machine, so perhaps I'll up the vm portion and see if that helps

Can I use the 2016 preview with my 365 subscription? I don't want to install the office 365 mac version because excel 2011 isn't as good as 2013, which I use for work.

Yes, it installs separately and does not interfere with other Office installations. I have it running alongside Office 2011. I don't use Excel at all but Word and Powerpoint are rock solid in the Preview. The Preview also includes Outlook which again, I don't have a need for.

I've been fooling with them. I have only two complaints thus far (Word is a touch slow to open and the find functionality is thoroughly broken given that it doesn't actually list results anywhere) but other than those, it works quite well as a daily driver. I still don't trust it with really important documents but for most, I have no issues with it.

The only other suggestion curlymac maybe there is a bit of a twist downloading on a Mac even when you are in Windows 7. If all else fails, maybe you can download on a Windows machine and copy to a thumb drive and use that when in the VM?
