I prefer for my desktop to be completely empty most of the time. The only time I ever have a file on my desktop is if I am actively working on the file. Of late though I have started experimenting with using Amnesty and embedding a couple widgets onto my desktop when I am doing specific tasks...

Again, taken on the beaches of Maine.

As for the toolbar, I read an article on it in MacWorld, I don't have it on me, but I'll PM you about it when I get home (on vacation).

Shapeshifter with the AlumiteX theme. I like the consistent l&f across all my apps.

Not too sure if I would be 'allowed' to post here (just delete this if that is the case).

Here is my laptop running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 skinned to look like Mac OSX:

Ok then wicker man how do you get your version of XP to look like OS X??

I used several programs:

FlyakiteOSX for the skins
Objectdock for the dock
Konfabulator for the dashboard

Only thing is there is a bit of lag on my laptop now. Can't wait to get a proper Mac.

My daughter spent a semester abroad in Bath, England. When visiting her, I photographed The Palladian Bridge in Prior Park. Makes a great background!

Here is mine, photo taken last spring I went looking for. Could not find it for weeks looking through CD's and DVD's...finally found it on my broken laptop and moved it over to the MAC.

Thanks guys, however I am sorry to say I dont give those away. Prints are available for purchase.

That was why I searched for it, I have a 20x30 of this print in my living room and someone wished to buy the photo. I could not believe I did not have a copy of it anywhere...
Back up, back up, back up.

The image is of a sunset at the top of the hill I live on. Just out of site are the city of Buffalo NY and Lake Erie. Lake Erie is to the left and the city would be in frame if it extended to the right a little bit.

That was taken in late October but temperatures were in the 70's that day. That was my first trip with my Nikon D70. I have to remember to take less verticals so I create more desktop images. :)

Your farm picture is beautiful. Alas, many of these farms have disappeared around Syracuse as housing and commercial development spread out.

We spent a few days in London before taking the train to Bath. About a 2 and a half hour trip. We lucked out in the weather. It was late October and the temperatures were in the 70's. Toured the Roman Baths, Abbey and Prior Park.

Benjamin, how does one acquire the desktop icons that look like the iMac?

Great desktops, everyone - these sorts of threads are always good inspiration.

Thats a good question I dont have the answer to. But you can use the manage attachment feature when you post.

inflexion

there is no code to it you just have upload the image via a post then as its on the mac-forums server it automatically puts the image as a thumb nail
